What’s this all About? #
PathPro member’s can subscribe to any task they like in order to receive notifications anytime the task is updated. This means different things depending on the user’s role, but in essence this allows a user to customize their notifications to only receive updates on items they’re interested in.
How does a member subscribe to a task? #
Members can quickly subscribe to any task on your project’s roadmap by clicking the notification icon. This icon exists on every task, letting your users choose exactly which features, tasks, and ideas they want to keep tabs on. This icon is shown below for reference, and to ensure a member is subscribed, they simply click the icon until they see the green check mark:
Members who have joined the project can customize their notifications as needed, subscribing only to the tasks they’re interested in with a single click.
What happens when a member subscribes to a task? #
By subscribing to a task, the member will receive an email-based notification every time someone adds a comment to the task. This lets the member keep track of product announcements, comments made by other community members, and other updates to each specific task.
How do notifications work for each member role? #
Let’s see some of the core benefits of subscribing to tasks for each user role.
Team Members: A team member is automatically to any task that they’ve been assigned to by the admin. However they can also subscribe to any task they like to ensure they stay in the loop when a task is updated. This is useful in multiple ways, for example:
- Like similar project management tools, Team Members will be stay notified anytime other team members make updates, ask questions, or make progress on any given task. This keeps your team organized and on the same page.
- Developers can stay in the loop with customer suggestions, collecting and analyzing feedback as needed and tagging suggestions that they’d like to implement into the product.
- Support Agents can keep track of suggestions being made by Community Members on a per-task basis, answering tech support questions as needed.
Community Members: Community Members are typically customers using your product, and by subscribing to various tasks and features under development, they’ll stay informed on progress of any given feature or update.
- If a customer has submitted a feature idea that is selected for development, they can subscribe to that feature’s task on the public roadmap. This will let them receive email notifications anytime there is an updates to the tasks’ progress, as well as keeping them informed of other member’s suggestions and comments.
- If a community member is a client, for example if you develop software on a contract basis, the client can keep tabs on a features progress as well. This means your development team can bridge the gap between the development and client relationship, keeping clients informed on progress while keeping your team organized.
- You can assign credit to community members who contributed to a feature’s development, automatically subscribing them to updates as the feature proceeds through the development pipeline.
Admin Roles: The admin of a PathPro account can subscribe to tasks as needed, giving them a supervision role to oversee any tasks they’d like for all member’s involved.
These are but a small sample of use cases for the notification feature included in all PathPro projects.
